A lecture reflecting on the 2006 publication by Horace L. Griffin, Their Own Receive Them Not: African American lesbians & gays in Black churches. Griffin's work is a critical analysis of race and sexuality and how they both shape cultural morality.

Rev. Dr. Donna E. Allen is founder and pastor of New Revelation Community Church in Oakland, CA. Ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, she received her Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University. At Vanderbilt, her dissertation topic was “Toward a Womanist Homiletic: Katie Cannon, Alice Walker, and Emancipatory Proclamation.”

In the Fall '07 term Dr. Allen will joined the Lancaster Theological Seminary faculty as Assistant Professor of Preaching and Worship. She has served as a professor at Pacific School of Religion, American Baptist Seminary of the West, and St. Paul School of Theology.
